We are so excited to be starting the new year, and this First Friday in Scranton with Daydreamers, Amy DuBois. Her show entitled, "Tiny Spaces", is a collection of beautiful dreamcatchers adorned with crystals, hand dyed fabrics, feathers, the perfect beads, and lots of love. We wanted more insight into this talented lady, so we had her answer a few questions we were dying to know....

What made you decide to start creating dream catchers?

I've been creative for as long as my memory exists. My mother taught me to weave wreaths as a little girl, and I will never forget the feeling I had when I saw my creation. As an adult, I studied graphic design in college and I have done freelance design as well as independent wedding floral design since I graduated. After I graduated, being such a creative person and working in unrelated fields due to the economic slump, I felt that I had somewhat lost my way. I have always been innately attracted to dreamcatchers, and one day, I decided to make one for myself. With that very first one, i felt myself reawakening. I began making them for myself and friends, to boost my spirits. Before I knew it, more and more people were requesting that I make them one. And so it began.

Is there anything specific that inspires you when creating these beautiful pieces?

Mother Earth- the sky, the mountains, the water, air, trees, birds. The Cosmos- the planets, the sun, light, the stars... I associate each one of these elements with a color and feeling that I try to interpret in my dreamcatchers. Another one of my inspirations is sacred geometry, the divine equations that make up our universe. The Flower of Life, the Torus... these patterns are the fabric of everything around us. I take these shapes and integrate them into some of my dreamcatchers. Sacred geometry is also the language of crop circles, which is another one of my inspirations. These magnificent formations take shape in the same systems that describe the creation and energy of our universe. They are riveting and captivating to look at. I'm intrigued by these shapes and their connections to something greater.

Where is the perfect spot to hang a dream catcher or (two!)?

I think the perfect place to hang a dreamcatcher, is wherever you feel it should be. If you think like the idea of it in your window, hang it there. If you envision it hanging over your bed, then put it there. If something is telling you to hang it in your living room, go with it. I think we should follow our inclinations and trust that we sense exactly where we need it to be.

Do you believe that dream catchers really catch bad dreams?

I do. It's more than that, though. The Native Americans believed that this web represents the evolution of our lives. Our connection to everything and everyone. The idea that we are always moving and changing. That we encounter the good, and the bad. A dreamcatcher takes this idea, and makes it a tangible one. It reminds us, that WE have the power to choose what we want in our lives. We can choose to be blessed. Just like the dreamcatcher catches our 'bad' dreams, and lets them disappear in the first light... We can do this too. And that, is something to aspire too.
